Space Overview

Think of this 1,800 square foot space as an extension of your home.

We strive to make the Family Room as hassle- and worry-free for parents as possible. At the Family Room you’ll have access to free Wifi, charging stations, and anything you might have forgotten to pack.

*Renderings and real pictures coming soon!

  • Comfy chairs, couches and tables for eating, getting organized, breastfeeding or feeding kids, and connecting with friends.

  • Built by local parents for local parents, we’re all about convenience. We’ll have a water fountain for free bottle refills.

Our small retail section has the following:

    • Prepackaged coffee and juice

    • Non-perishable snacks

    • Healthy additional grab-and-go food items (think Farmer’s Fridge)

    • Diapers, wipes, one-serving formula bottles

  • A small area with a sink and community refrigerator (ex: breastmilk storage.)

  • Get the novelty of a new toy with the benefits of up-cycling and saving money. Members can borrow one toy/child for up to a week at a time.

*we also accept donations as part of our Social Impact program

  • This is designed as a safe space for little ones to get in their tummy time while parents bond with their babies and connect with each other.

  • This is a free-building station where anyone can become a master builder and let their imagination run wild. We’ll use cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, glue sticks, and other common objects to allow children to create their own worlds without limitation.

  • Spark creativity with our art classes or unleash your imagination during open play! We provide a vibrant selection of high-quality art supplies, so you don't have to worry about a thing. Leave the mess to us – we'll handle the cleanup.

  • This section is full of toys, board games, doll houses, trains, and anything that moves our kids’ bodies and minds. These are made to be pulled out, played with, shared, and explored.

*These toys are separate from the toy library.

  • Reading is power. This nook is a space for anyone to curl up to relax on a rainy, snowy, or humid day. Pictures, novels, or comics … it’s for a brief respite or deep escape.

  • Imaginative play crosses domains. This zone will include costumes as well as home and work play areas for children to act out their dreams.

  • Kids need to move … a lot. You don’t need mega apparatus to burn energy. This area uses small (and safe) activities to create energy-burning experiences that will entertain even the most rambunctious 5-8 year olds.

  • This is large, flexible space used for parties, events, and additional programming. We have movable acoustic walls to accommodate various group sizes.

  • Large child-friendly bathroom that accommodates adults and children. It also includes a free-standing changing table.

FAQs

Below are some frequently asked questions. What else do you want to know? Send us a note!

Are you a daycare?

No, we are not a daycare. We require your child(ren) to have someone on site to be responsible for them. We’re looking into day camp options for the future.

Are you a school?

We offer classes and programs taught by our team and providers with a focus on broad arts education through the lens of traditional art, music, physics, architecture, science and math.

How easy will it be to cancel my membership?

The monthly membership can be canceled in writing (ex: an email) with 30 days notice from the next billing cycle.

Can I work while my kids play?

Absolutely. Feel free to multitask in our family room space while your kids play. As long as you are available if they need you. *We don’t want tablets or screens in the kids play area. Our goal is that the kids get a break from screens (even if we have to keep using them to work).

Can I bring in food and drinks?

Yes, feel free to BYO (just not alcohol). We’ll have a retail section with products from local partners that we hope you enjoy, and we know families have budgets and preferences. Shop local and bring it in to enjoy family breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks from our family room. No food/drinks in the play area.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Kids and reservations don’t really work. So, no, your membership = come and go as you please.

Specific programs that require advance planning will be clearly noted on our calendar.

We will also have special programs that members get discounted prices and early registration to RSVP.

NOTE: Reservation-specific programs will never interfere with open playroom access during normal business hours.

Do you close for private events?

No, our family members and business hours are set for everyone. Groups get access to a private room, but we don’t close the business.

We’re building something special here at the Family Room. Join our waitlist to be among the first to know when we open our doors. You'll receive exclusive updates, including early access to membership options, special offers, and more. Be part of the excitement as we build an amazing community!

Be the First to Know

Hi! I’m Kimberly Brown. I am a local mom with two young kids.

As a former corporate executive, I decided to swap my boardroom for the playroom. After running global teams and running for local elected office, I realized that changing the world starts in our own communities.

With my background in marketing, education, and parenting, I'm ready to make the Family Room the best spot in Chicago.

I'm focused on creating a space where families can connect, grow, and have fun. Adults need friends too. We all need to get out of the house and it shouldn’t cost a small fortune. The Family Room is built for all of us to thrive on this journey called parenthood.

Investing in families is investing in Chicago.
